Conversion and Submission Instructions
- If you have finished with your thesis or dissertation, it is now time to submit it electronically. The following is a list of step-by-step instructions for converting your document to PDF and uploading it to OhioLINK for web access.
- If you have not yet done so, it would be a good idea to review the ETD Preparation Guide to make sure you have met all requirements of the Graduate school.
Download MS Office and Adobe Acrobat free from CWRU Software Center
- You will begin the electronic submission process by converting your Word document to PDF. Download a detailed instruction guide: How to Convert Word Files to PDF
- After converting your document to PDF you may want to add bookmarks, links, audio, video, or other enhancements to your document. Download step-by-step instructions that contain the following:

- Once your PDF document is done, it is time to insert the committee approval form. The electronic copy, with the names of your committee members typed in, should be inserted as the second page of your thesis. The two original copies from your graduation packet, complete with the signatures of your committee members, must be returned to the School of Graduate Studies.
- Once the approval form is complete, you are ready to upload the document to OhioLINK. Follow the instructions in the document listed below. However, use caution when completing the abstract section of the OhioLINK site. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE your abstract into the field if you have used any type of special formatting or characters (such as Greek or Latin). You will need to first replace the characters with entities (codes). Please use the guide listed below for complete instructions on inserting entities.
